AstraZeneca PLC and Teva Pharmaceutical Industries will sell the US market for a generic version of AstraZeneca’s blockbuster anti-ulcer drug Nexium (esomeprazole). AstraZeneca, the world’s biggest drug maker, has said it will own the US market for the drug and will produce it for the US market as an alternative to Pfizer’s Prilosec and Teva’s Prilosec Pro.
The US market for Nexium was valued at US$ 7.5 billion in 2011, according to a recent report from IMS Health.

Teva and AstraZeneca will be the only drug to be sold to the US market of Prilosec.
The US market for Prilosec is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3% from 2014 to 2016. AstraZeneca is expected to lose about 30% of its market share from 2015 to 2016.
